Living In The Present

Living In The Present

So often there are many days that we do not recognize that our life is a gift given to us from God. We wake up at the same time everyday, do the same thing, and seem to be just going through the motions of our modern 21st century lifestyle. I don't know about you, but that does not sound exciting at all! The Christian life is not one of boredom, but is one that calls us to live every moment radically.

If you go outside and look around at nature and those around you, all that you see was made specifically for you. And you were made specifically for everything that you encounter, for this is the gifts that God has given you! So, it is not just a random parking spot you have at work as you were running late, it is the parking spot that God gave you, and only for you! I may be sounding a little crazy, but this is the truth of our God. Our God loves us so immensely, that everything is held in existence just for you. If it is made just for you, then you and I must start to live differently. But why? Because, tomorrow is not guaranteed, and all that we have is today.

If today is all that I have, this means that everything I see is not guaranteed either. So, by viewing creation and others as a gift from God, life starts to look differently. No longer am I living in this mundane life, I am living the life of the beloved. Living the life of the beloved, is knowing that everything you experience throughout your day, is God's love for you. With that being said, there is this call to go and live life, as we're meant to! So often, we drown out the beauty of creation by scrolling on our phone, or distracting us in some other way. In reality, if we slowed down, and tried to be more aware of the gifts God has given us, everything would change. Creation is truly beautiful, and if we do not recognize it, we will never truly appreciate it. A perfect day to go explore God's creation, is Sunday! That is because this is the day of rest, and one great way to rest is by going on a hike, stargazing or whatever activity you'd like to do that brings you closer to God.

Not only this, but humans are the best part of creation! When you talk with someone, you are also talking to the Risen Lord that is inside of them. If we do not view conversations as this, the time to begin is now! We are all children of God, but too often we are hesitant to love our neighbor. To truly live in the present moment is to love those around us as, and see them for who they truly are.

If all we have is today, we need to live as if today is our last day. This means, we cannot have any hesitations to follow Jesus with our whole heart. If you were to die tonight, are you pleased with the way you glorified Jesus and His Kingdom? If not, the time is now to give your heart to Him! He is waiting for you to fall into His arms of mercy, so we must go run towards Him! Also, we must not hesitate to recognize His love for us in everything that we encounter in our day! I recommend saying this prayer by Saint St. Therèse of Lisieux and St. Theresa of Avila:

"Little Flower, give me your childlike faith, to see the Face of God in the people and experiences of my life, and to love God with full confidence. St. Therese, my Carmelite Sister, I will fulfill your plea "to be made known everywhere" and I will continue to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen."

God Bless,
